El silencio entre las notas
El silencio entre las notas
When the physical becomes sublime
El silencio entre las notas
An installation containing a concert: a concert that begins with a simple vibrating string, the string of a viola da gamba, a medieval instrument used mainly in chamber and Baroque music. From there, it takes us on a journey in which sound, a simple physical phenomenon with no inherent meaning, becomes something profound and moving as it evolves into music.
Accompanying the music, visual projections unfold around the performers in a dreamlike choreography, where each note becomes an explosion of light and movement, creating a synaesthetic landscape.
The installation consists of a cube measuring 3 metres on each side, containing two artists: a musician and a VJ. Two side faces are white and the other two are semi-transparent; video is projected onto each of them, allowing light and images to play through 360 degrees around the artists. The transparent ceiling lets in beams from external spotlights. The cube gradually fills with smoke, giving the projections inside a three-dimensional volume. The smoke also makes the spotlight beams come alive only as they enter the cube: outside it there is no smoke, so the light trails remain invisible.
The audience stands around the cube, facing its two transparent sides, and can see both the cube and its interior as the interplay of light allows.
