Dermis del espejo, that other asymptote where imagination and tangible things create reality
We continue and branch out from the path of Gayle Hermick, whose sculpture traces the main discoveries in physics throughout history, redirecting it to evoke the multiple paths humanity has taken in seeking an explanation of our origin. These include ancestral cosmogonies from Colombia and elsewhere in the world: concepts that have existed in parallel, evolved and remain present even in the narratives of our current worldviews.
The piece is a costume that emulates the skin of a naked body, tattooed with iconic symbols drawn from the many representations humanity has created to understand our origin and, with it, our reality. Its symbolism spans the history of physics as well as different cosmogonies which, through reflection or by chance, converge with and even contribute to the scientific narratives used to comprehend what escapes our first intuitions.
Since the body is our fundamental unit for every interpretation and experience of the universe, it is where each metaphor we have found to explain reality takes material form.
